First of all, I am sorry I have not been writing lately. During the school year a lot of my ministry time is used for my bible club called JAMtime where I need to write sermons each week and organize events for the group. But now, ahhh it is summer time!
My family is originally from Michigan, but around 1999 God called my Mom and Dad to start a church in California because it is so diverse. Our family was very happy to serve the Lord but we left our extended family in Michigan. Every year or so we fly out to Michigan to see them; these times are very special for me. For the past week and a half I have been in Michigan visiting my family and friends.

I think God also thinks it is important and special to be in a family and to spend time with family. First of all, in the Old Testament, there was the Covenant where God told Abraham that he would show his love to his children and to his children’s children and so on; it would be a giant family, God’s family. Another example is that Jesus was born into a family and he was in a family for 30 years. Even on the cross when he was dying he wanted to know if his mother Mary was okay. This is important because God could have just had Jesus not be in a family he could of started out at his ministering age. Furthermore in Psalm 127:3-5 the Bible says:
“Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate.”
Here it says that children are to be gifts to their parents, and because the children are gifts to their parents are to treat their children with respect as the word of God says in Ephesians 6:4:
“Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”
And in addition Colossians 3:21:
“Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged”
As you can see from these passages God wants parents to love and respect their children but yes, it is true, it goes both ways God also wants the children to obey their parents. In Colossians 3:20 the Bible says:
“Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.”
Furthermore in Ephesians 6:1-3 God says:
“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ’Honor your father and mother’ which is the first commandment with a promise—that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”

I definitely think that families are a great blessing from God. In my past week and a half I have spent with my family in Michigan we have had a lot of fun, great conversations, and even had our own worship service just as a family. I believe that when God looks down from heaven and sees families following him it makes him smile. I am very thankful for my family. I realize families quarrel and that is not God’s will.
Remember, in families it is not just parents loving their children it is not only children honoring their parents but it is a combination, it is a two way relationship.
